2008 Calluna Estate

Calluna Estate, our reserve wine, is a blend of the traditional grape varietals of Bordeaux, selected from the best lots of our vineyards in the Chalk Hill AVA in the heart of Sonoma County. The Calluna Estate is my highest aspiration in winemaking – a Bordeaux blend of selected barrels from our estate. My goal is to have this wine stand with the best wines of Bordeaux and California. Intensity with balance, significant but well-integrated oak (60% new), true to its terroir. Our vineyards rest at an ideal elevation in this moderate growing area - shielded from extremes of frost and heat. Calluna’s high density vineyards are tended with the precepts of small vine viticulture, consistent with the great vineyards of France. My goal is to deliver both the classic balance of Old World wines and the richness inherent in our Sonoma terroir.

Wine Spectator Review (Aug 2011): "91 | $50. A rich, substantial, layered effort, with notes of red and black fruits, spice, mineral, cedar and black licorice. Full-bodied, deep and extracted, holding onto a tight focus. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2020. 230 cases made. —J.L.
