2018 Cabernet Sauvignon "The Colonel's Vineyard"

With the enviable position at the top of the property, The Colonel’s Vineyard is a small, 1 ¼ acre block planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. This pristine block has a gently sloping south-west exposure for even ripening of the fruit.

The 2018 Colonel’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was vinified utilizing the barrel fermentation process that winemaker David Jeffrey learned from Alain Raynaud while working at Chateau Quinault in St. Emilion.

The Colonel’s Vineyard bottling is David Jeffrey's tribute to California Cabernet Sauvignon – it is bolder, more extracted, more oak impacted than any other wine we make, and yet still has the signature balance of Calluna wines.

“The flagship 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon The Colonel’s Vineyard is richer and deeper (than the 2018 Calluna Estate), yet still has notable freshness as well as minerality. Its dense purple hue is followed by a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated Cabernet offering lots of cassis and blackberry fruit, ripe, building yet substantial tannins, a great spine of acidity, beautiful violet, chalky minerality, and floral aromas and flavors. It’s a serious wine yet demands 4-5 years, if not more, of bottle age and should have 20-25 years of overall longevity.”
