The Colonel’s Vineyard

This spectacular 1 ¼ acre parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon is situated on a gentle south-west slope at the top of a plateau and bathes in sunlight until late each afternoon. This extended sunshine, combined with the relatively cool climate of the Chalk Hill appellation, yields an intense and quintessentially California Cabernet Sauvignon.

The south-west aspect of this vineyard makes it ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon in a cooler climate. The vineyard is planted to clone 337 on 3309C rootstock. According to winemaker David Jeffrey, this is an ideal vineyard because it stays green and strong but small and non-vigorous throughout the growing season – all with very little water.

Named in honor of a close family friend who is a retired Colonel in the US Army. He and his wife have consistently provided guidance and inspiration to us along our journey.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon from The Colonel’s Vineyard will be released to our mailing list in October 2022 at $95 per bottle. Our Friends of Calluna Wine Club Members receive priority allocations of this wine and legacy pricing at $63 per bottle.
